Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU)'s Bridging Divides scholarship program for Master's students, which offers up to $20,000 per year for domestic students, and $30,000 per year for international students, closes on April 1, 2025. These scholarships are open to incoming first-year Master's students, as well as second-year Master's students already enrolled at TMU.
These scholarships are open to Canadian and international students — fitting, since Bridging Divides focuses on four major interdisciplinary research themes centered around newcomers' experiences of Canada. If your area of study fits with one of the four research themes, and you're interested in conducting original research at TMU, you may want to apply for a scholarship before the deadline on April 1, 2025.
Bridging Divides' four research themes:
Here are the four main themes of the Bridging Divides project:
The Immigrant Health and Well-Being stream is all about health and wellness for newcomers to Canada. Explore population analysis, innovative interventions, and potential policy actions, to keep Canada's growing population healthy.
Check out research projects under the Immigrant Health and Well-Being stream.
The Employment and Lifelong Learning stream focuses on innovation and the economy. Use advanced technologies to interrogate unemployment and underemployment, explore bias in hiring processes, and discover new tech for training the next generation of Canadian workers.

Social infrastructure and physical infrastructure go hand-in-hand. The Place and Infrastructure stream digs into what "place" means, and how our conceptions of space are changing in the digital era. Use advanced tech to research how social and physical infrastructures affect and influence people.

The Citizenship and Participation stream is focused on the experiences of migrants, immigrants, newcomers, and refugees, with particular emphasis on people born outside of Canada who live here with temporary or permanent status.
